The Blog is Working Again!!!

Hello Again!

Finally!!!  My blog is back up and working.  I'm still working on a custom domain.  Something went terribly wrong when I tried to apply one and, instead of changing the URL, it took the whole blog down!!!  But, I have the site working again and am very happy to be writing this post.

My little buddy, Freya trying to steal my cake.  She was, of course, removed from the plate but she did receive coconut as a treat.  She is as avid a crafter as I am!  You should see her get excited when I pull out yarn or fiber.  There is nothing she enjoys more than crawling down my shirt and felting some fiber into a little nest.
With only 2 month until our first big event, we have been making kits, printing pamphlets, and working on anything and everything needed to make the event a success.  We spent this week working on Spindle designs for wheelchairs.  Of all the crafts I enjoy, the spindle is among the top.  As someone with full mobility, it is easy for me to stand if I need extra room.  The challenge is making a spindle that will work for those with less mobility, such as a wheelchair.  Since my mother uses a wheelchair, she understands the struggle all too well.  So, we are working on making a tiny spindle that is heavy enough for beginners.  Challenge accepted and being worked on daily!

Speaking of spindles, I acquired a gorgeous Ken Ledbetter variegated wood Russian spindle awhile back.  It is stunning.  Russian spindles are, however, a completely different technique and not an easy one.  At the moment, I can make a lovely yarn using it but there is a 50/50 chance of my spun yarn staying on the spindle as I spin more.  All I can say is practice, practice, practice...

My Russian Spindle.  It is a beauty!!!

I was excited to see the progress I had made on my spinning.  After the first learning curve, I had assumed I was stuck in a rut.  Everything looked good but, to me at least, it didn't appear to be getting better.  That was how I felt until I found two skeins of yarn I had spun.  One was the first skein I had spun using a spinning wheel.  The next was a skein I had spun about 6 months later using the same roving.  What a difference!!!

The first skein I spun using a spinning wheel.  It was pretty rough!

A skein spun 6 months later using the same roving.  The difference is amazing!

Well, I had better run.  I have a very early morning and I am not a morning person.  My ideal schedule would involve waking at 1 in the afternoon and going to bed at 4 in the morning but no one else in the real world seems to appreciate my schedule!  Oh well, at least my family are night people.

Until next time...  ~Tori

Hello Everyone!!!

Welcome!!!  This is a blog devoted to the opposite side of disability; the caretakers.  While Healing Fibers Foundation is devoted to those who are ill or have a disability, we can't forget those who take care of them.  The caretakers are just as important to HFF.  As a caretaker myself, I am starting this blog as a means of support and encouragement.  Nobody quite understands the struggle of caring for an ill loved one or friend like someone in the same situation.

I'm afraid that is all I have the time for today but I will post again soon!

Have a lovely day!

Hello Everyone!  This is me on a trip to San Antonio.  We were in town for the PAX Convention.

My Mother and her niddy noddy of freshly spun yarn. There is nothing more exciting than wrapping that finished yarn around the niddy noddy to skein it.  It is an amazing feeling of accomplishment.
